Richard Dabbert

Richard Dabbert, age 69, of Merrill, Wisconsin, passed away on February 22, 2022, in Weston, Wisconsin. He was born on June 20, 1952, to the late Albion and Evelyn (Edwards) Dabbert in Merrill, Wisconsin.  He was an avid sports fan – enjoying playing, watching and coaching a variety of sports. He coached Little League and youth basketball for many years. He loved volunteering for a variety of charities, including the Food Pantry, Free Clinic, and serving on the Hospital Board. He also taught Sunday school at St. Stephen’s for many years.  After 32 years in law enforcement, Rich retired as Captain of the Merrill Police Department. While working with the police department, he oversaw the safety patrol program and accomplished getting defibrillators placed in each police vehicle.

Rich was a quiet, determined, funny man, who loved to cook. He leaves behind his wife of almost 44 years, Nancy Dabbert; children, Kristen (Jose Stambuk) Spindler and Kari (Jason) Kruchko; grandchildren, Genevieve and Vivian Kruchko; and siblings, Sharon (Harrell) Cantrell and Milton (Karen) Dabbert.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Karon Ross and nephew Scott Cantrell.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Waid Funeral Home and on Monday, February 28, 2022, from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ.  Interment at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery.  Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences are encouraged and may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
