Merrill Girls Basketball Team plays hard but loses two

On Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, the Merrill Girls Basketball Team headed to Wausau East High School where the Lady Jays took on the Wausau East Lumberjacks.
Alayna Pozorski (3 FG, 2 3pt, 1 FT, 2 ast, 4 stl) was the high scorer for Merrill with 9 points, followed by Laney Zuelsdorff (2 FG, 3 FT, 2 ast) with 7 points and Brenna Steinagel (2 FG, 1 FT, 1 stl) with 5 points. Unfortunately, Merrill was down by seven points at the end of first period (15-22) and despite scoring 23 points in the second period, they couldn’t quite recover and lost to the Lumberjacks.

On Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, the Merrill Girls Basketball Team played the girls at DC Everest High School. Merrill Girls put up points, but Everest had them on the defense early in the game. At halftime, Everest was up 17 points with Merrill at 23, and Everest at 40. In the second half, the Everest girls also took the lead, putting up 34 points to Merrill’s 29. In the end, Everest came away with the win, 74-52.
Merrill’s Maddie Drew (5 FG, 5 3pt, 2 FT) was the high scorer for the Lady Jays with 17 points, while Mia Ott (1 FG, 9 FT) came in with 11 points and Sophie Wendorf (3 FG, 2 3pt, 2 FT, 2 ast) was on her heels with 10 points for the game.
