MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

02-07-2022

At 11:44 a.m. officers were called to a residence in regards to a reported theft. Officers learned the suspect and the caller were in the process of ending their relationship and one party was alleging that the other took some of their property, which also consisted of their marijuana. Officers got the pair to return the non-controlled substance property to their respective owners. The marijuana in question was allegedly used up prior to officer’s arrival.

At 7:19 p.m. officers were called, along with the Merrill Fire Department, for a fire contained in an oven at a Wisconsin Department of Corrections residence. Officers assisted on scene while the fire was extinguished.

At 7:57 p.m. officers were called to a residence regarding an adult son in a verbal altercation with his mother. Upon arrival, the son chose to leave the residence for the evening to avoid further escalating the issues at hand. The son was provided a ride to his intended destination.

At 1:44 p.m. an individual reported that someone had attempted to take out a student loan with their information. Investigation is ongoing.

At 6:57 p.m. a deer was reported to be injured from an unknown source and was lying along the roadway. Officers were able to locate the deer, and it was euthanized due to injuries.

At 7:10 p.m. an officer received a suspicious activity report from an apartment building on Johnson St. There were two suspicious males walking around the area of the apartment building. The reporting party stated she believed that the two males may have caused damage to a door and stolen quarters from the laundry area a few days prior. Officers checked the area and did not locate the suspects in question.

At 9:00 p.m. a female party called dispatch to ask if there were hotel vouchers. An officer spoke with the female, and she claimed that she was living in a van with three other people and they needed a place to stay for the night. An officer made arrangements with St. Vincent de Paul and the Econo lodge in Merrill for them to stay the night.

At 11:58 a.m. a caller reported an attempted burglary, after finding damage to a window screen. The officer found the screen had previously been damaged, and it appeared the former repair had worn out. Additionally, there were no tracks in the snow to show anyone had attempted to enter or damage the screen.

At 1:28 p.m. the hospital reported a male there with injuries reportedly from being involved in a fight. Due to a language barrier, not many details were known immediately, but it was determined the male had been involved in a fight in Marathon County and the incident had already been reported to that jurisdiction.

At 3:13 p.m. a female was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

At 5:49 a.m. a two-vehicle crash was reported with minor damage. After investigating, it was found that one of the drivers was backing out of their driveway when they hit the rear bumper of another vehicle.

At 5:13 p.m. a business reported that they had recovered a pill from an individual and were unable to identify what the pill was. Officers took the pill and attempted to identify it through a pharmacy and by a detective. Ultimately, the pill could not be identified and it was destroyed.

At 8:03 p.m. officers located an unoccupied vehicle stuck in a snow bank off of an ice rink at a park. Three individuals present in another vehicle at the park at that time were questioned regarding the vehicle. No individual admitted to driving. The vehicle was removed from the snow bank and legally parked.

At 3:34 a.m. officers responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex. While speaking to the individuals in the apartment about the noise, it was found that one of the parties had an active warrant out for their arrest. The individual was taken into custody and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

At 4:30 p.m. an individual had reported that pills were stolen from their house and they had the person on camera. Investigation is ongoing.

At 10:54 p.m. officers responded to a residence from which a male had called stating that his wife was hitting him. It was also heard over the phone that the wife was making allegations that the husband was hitting her, as well. After speaking with both parties, it was found that the two had gotten into a verbal altercation which escalated into the female scratching at the male’s face and hitting him. As a result of the incident, the female was taken into custody for domestic disorderly conduct and domestic battery.

At 6:36 a.m. a vehicle was reported to be stuck in snow after it had left the roadway. Upon locating the vehicle, officers found that no one was inside, but yet it was still running. From the direction of the tracks in the snow, it appeared that the driver missed a corner in the road, causing the vehicle to go off of the road. The driver was identified to be the owner of the vehicle. The driver stated that they had not been paying attention, which caused them to miss the curve and leave the road way.
