The EMU Bluejacks play hard defensively but offense falls a bit short

DC Everest comes away with a win

East Merrill Newman United (EMU) Bluejacks Varsity Hockey Team played DC Everest on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022.
DC Everest’s #14 Kole Ress scored two points in the first period, the first with an assist by #7 Keaton Dettinger and #2 Carson Oertel and the second unassisted. The Bluejacks landed one point in the first period, scored by #27 Nick Bodner with an assist from #3 Andrew Franken right at the 15.00 minute mark.

While second and third periods were a battle and remained scoreless for the Bluejacks, Everest was able to pick up one point in each of those periods. In the second period, #19 Owen Bunnell scored a point with an assist from #13 Parker Neitzke and #4 Parker Hurt. Then in the third period, Everest’s #12 Nolan Elgersma scored a point with an assist from #5 Eddie Zynda.

The Bluejacks’ #1 and Goalie Jake Furrer put up a strong defense with a total of 38 saves in the game, and DC Everest Goalie #1 Breyden Sabatke made a total of 11 saves in the game. Despite the strong Bluejacks defense, their offense wasn’t able to put forth the points needed, and the Everest offense put through enough points to come away with the win, 4 – 1.
