Merrill Community Theater to hold auditions for “Isn’t it Romantic”

Cast of seven actors sought for Feb. 2022 production

The Merrill Community Theater will hold auditions for their next production: “Isn’t it Romantic” by Wendy Wasserstein on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 300 N. Mill St. in Merrill. Casting will take place to fill roles for four women and three men in the following roles:
Janie Bloomberg – Sweet, witty and nice young single woman fresh out of college and looking for what life will bring her in Manhattan.

Harriet Cornwall – Janie’s best friend, fresh out of college and found a job at Colgate.
Lillian Cornwell – Harriet’s mother, a business woman who owns and runs her own company.
Tasha Bloomberg – Janie’s mother is a quirky housewife who goes to dance classes daily and runs her husband’s life.
Simon Bloomberg – Janie’s Dad who is sweet, funny and very caring of his wife and children.
Marty Sterling – New Jewish doctor who adores Janie.
Paul Stuart – Harriet’s boss’s boss, married, and having an affair with Harriet.

The play follows two friends in their late twenties as they try to navigate the harsh waters of romance and careers in 1980’s Manhattan. One is Janie Blumberg, a Jewish freelance writer struggling to establish independence from her well-meaning but occasionally overbearing parents. The other is Harriet Cornwall, the daughter of a successful executive who’s trying to carve her own high-powered career path at Colgate.

The production of “Isn’t it Romantic” will take place in Feb. 2022 and rehearsals begin in Jan. 2022.
