Lady Jays Swim their way into a third-place WVC Conference finish; take first-place championships in three events

At the Oct. 28 Great WVC Conference Swim Meet, the Merrill girls came away with three Conference Champions, six second place finishes, and one third place finish. Additionally, the girls came in in the top eight in six other events.
In the final score, “the Bluejays finished third behind SPASH and DCE, with their highest Conference score ever,” Head Swim Coach Kristie Winter said. SPASH had a score of 509, DC Everest had a score of 429.5, and Merrill finished with a score of 381.

“On to Sectionals next weekend in Menomonie!” Winter said.

The highest scores for Merrill in each of the events were as follows:
Event 1 – 2nd place in the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay team of: Grace Schultz, Amber Winter, Claire Schultz, and Bailee Sommer (1:52.09)
Event 2 – 2nd place in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle: Amber Winter (2:02.05)
Event 3 – 2nd place in the Girls 200 Yard IM: Grace Schultz (2:15.28)
Event 4 – 2nd place in the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle: Claire Schultz (25.23)
Event 5 – 7th place in the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly: Megan Miles (1:07.35)
Event 6 – 1st place in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle: Claire Schultz (55.95)
Event 7 – 2nd place in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle: Olivia Pajtash (5:44.92)
– 3rd place in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle: Bailey Orzech (5:49.33)
Event 8 – 1st place in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay: Grace Schultz, Claire Schultz, Amber Winter, and Bailee Sommer (1:41.88)
Event 9 – 1st place in the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke: Grace Schultz (1:00.54)
Event 10 – 2nd place in the Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke: Amber Winter (1:08.78)
Event 11 – 8th place in the Girls 400 Yard Relay: Laney Zuelsdorff, Olivia Pajtash, Emma Pajtash, and Bailey Orzech (4:13.38)
