MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

09-13-21
At 5:57 p.m. a state trooper requested assistance with a combative subject he had arrested for operating while intoxicated. Merrill officers assisted in restraining the man, who was under the influence of drugs, until he calmed down.
At 7:46 p.m. a caller requested an officer retrieve her cell phone from her boyfriend, following an argument they had. An officer went to the address to attempt contact, and the male drove up to the residence. He was found to be under the influence of intoxicants and was arrested for operating while intoxicated (4th offense) and bail jumping. The phone was returned to the girlfriend. Both stated nothing physical had occurred between them.
At 9:08 p.m. a caller reported her juvenile daughter had damaged her vehicle with a pair of scissors and threatened her with them. Arrangements were made for the juvenile to stay elsewhere for the night, and she was referred to social services for disorderly conduct while armed and criminal damage to property.
At 11:45 p.m. a caller reported a raccoon had killed his cat, and he was going to go stab the raccoon and wanted officers to know in the event the neighbors called the police. The man was warned against engaging the raccoon and responded to the scene. It was found the cat had simply escaped the house and the man assumed it was attacked by a raccoon after seeing a raccoon in his yard. The cat was located unharmed nearby and returned home. The raccoon had run off prior to officers’ arrival. The man had a large hunting knife in his possession, which precipitated a tense encounter with officers. He obeyed officer’s commands to drop the knife prior to the circumstances being investigated.

At 12:47 a.m. an officer located an intoxicated female at a park in violation of park curfew. The female was argumentative with officers during the contact, and she was cited for violation of park curfew.
At 7:55 a.m. a caller reported her elderly mother was the victim of an ongoing scam. The scammers had convinced her mother that she was eligible for Publishers Clearing House winnings, but in order to stay in the running for the prize, she needed to send them gift cards. It is unknown how much money the mother had sent. The mother did not believe her daughter that this was a scam and was requesting an officer attempt to convince her. An officer spoke with the mother and explained this was clearly a scam. The mother refused to assist in an investigation but did seem to realize the ruse was a scam.
At 8:29 a.m. a caller reported the theft of a front porch. The residence in question was to be demolished. The porch had been removed without permission and was located at a neighboring residence. An officer was able to speak to the involved parties and a resolution was reached among them.
At 10:18 a.m. a business requested assistance after suspecting an employee was intoxicated. The employee admitted to consuming intoxicants and a preliminary breath test (PBT) confirmed he was intoxicated.
At 12:13 p.m. a caller reported a black, medium-sized animal lying at the edge of a street. It was reported the animal had a blue ribbon on it and it was still moving, suspected to have been struck by a vehicle. An officer discovered it was simply a bag of trash.
At 3:32 p.m. a caller reported he had four tires and rims in his yard he was selling. Sometime overnight someone had stolen two of the tires and rims.
At 5:42 p.m. a female came to the Police Department to report a domestic incident she was involved in with her ex-boyfriend on Sept. 12, 2021. Based on her report, she was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct after she shoved the ex-boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend stated she had slapped him twice following an argument.
At 6:25 p.m. a caller reported witnessing a group of juveniles remove a sign from outside a gas station, which they took to a nearby park with them. The group and sign were located, and a female admitted to taking the sign as a prank. The sign was undamaged. She agreed to return the sign and apologize to the worker. She was warned for theft, and a message was left for her parent advising them of the incident.
At 6:40 p.m. Waushara County Sheriff’s Office requested officers attempt contact with a male at a Merrill address and arrest him for a warrant through their agency. Contact was made with the man, and he was arrested for the warrant.

At 11:32 a.m. officers responded to a domestic incident where a party was hit in the head with a metal bar. As a result of the initial investigation, a party was arrested. Investigation is still ongoing.
At 6:08 p.m. a party was arrested on a traffic stop, after it was found he had an active warrant for his arrest.

At 4:57 a.m. officers were called to a single-vehicle crash where the occupant fled the scene. Investigation is ongoing.

At 5:05 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation. The driver was found to have a warrant for his arrest through Lincoln County. He was arrested for that warrant and cited for failure to fasten seatbelt, operating without insurance, and operating while revoked (4th+ offense).
At 6:44 p.m. a caller reported a burglary at his residence after returning home to find a window ajar. It was determined their dog had pushed the window open, ran away for a short time, and then returned home.

At 12:45 a.m. an officer located a female in a park after park curfew hours. The female provided a false name and was arrested for obstructing an officer. A search of her jacket revealed a methamphetamine pipe. She was found to have two open felony bonds. She was arrested for obstructing an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony bail jumping (two counts).
At 10:25 p.m. an officer stopped a vehicle for a registration violation. The officer requested a K9 conduct a drug sniff of the vehicle. K9 Eros had a positive alert to the odor of drugs coming from the vehicle. A search of the female passenger’s purse revealed she had provided the officer a false name, and her true identity was learned. She was found to have a warrant for her arrest through Oneida County. Additionally, marijuana and methamphetamine were found in her purse. She was arrested for obstructing an officer, possession of THC, possession of methamphetamine, and the Oneida County warrant.

At 3:40 a.m. officers were called to a report of people yelling in an alleyway. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the involved parties.
At 11:52 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the passenger who was found to have a warrant for their arrest through Marathon County.
Throughout the day, officers were called to reports of skunks acting unusually in various areas of the city. Officers have been in contact with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources about the issue.
