Schmidt finishes first at Cross Country opener

Teams finish fifth and seventh

The Merrill Bluejays were off to a running start at the first Cross Country meet of the season on Aug. 26 at Rhinelander High School.
“The weather was beautiful and our athletes were nervous and excited,” said Alyssa Swan, Head MHS Cross Country Coach. “For a lot of our athletes, this was their first race in quite some time.”
Elizabeth Schmidt took first place overall for the ladies with a time of 20:15, helping lead the ladies to a seventh place finish out of nine teams. Times for the other Lady Jays were: Madi Crossman (26:11), Bre Herdt (30:45), Brooklyn Kragenbrink (32:35), Olivia Bares (32:36), Irene Blennert (33:43), and Sophia Schmidt (53:48).
Callen Hoeppner took 8th place overall for the Bluejay Boys with a time of 20:19, helping lead the guys to a fifth place finish out of eight teams.
He was followed by David Golisch (20:50), Elliot Hanson (21:09), Ian Schuetze (21:13), Henry Reimann (22:27), Kayoda Raddatz (23:02), and Caleb Norton (23:23).
