MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

06-07-21
At 8:59 a.m. a crash was reported in a business parking lot. The driver stated he had sneezed and struck a pole in the lot. A crash report was completed.
At 1:33 p.m. a caller reported possible drug activity after observing a juvenile smoking something at a park. It was found the juvenile had stolen his mother’s vape pen and was smoking from it. He was cited for juvenile tobacco violation.
At 2:04 p.m. a caller reported someone stole his chainsaw from his unlocked garage sometime in the past few weeks.
At 8:44 p.m. someone found a wallet at a park during a baseball game and turned it in at the concession stand. The officer was able to determine the owner after finding a driver’s license and bank cards with the owner’s name on them. The officer called the owner, who did not realize he had lost his wallet. He picked up his wallet and confirmed all the contents were accounted for.
At 9:14 p.m. a caller reported she was cleaning an apartment and a male kicked open a door and was following her around yelling at her and accusing her of stealing his items. It was found the male was the former tenant and the landlord allowed him to move property out on this date. The landlord also gave the female caller permission to clean the apartment and failed to tell either of the potential of the presence of the other. The male was arrested by Merrill PD for an unrelated case being investigated by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

At 6:12 a.m. a caller reported a window smashed at a vacant business. Officers cleared the building and did not locate anybody inside. Investigation is ongoing.
At 3:32 p.m. an officer observed a UTV operating faster than the 15 mph speed limit. Radar confirmed the UTV to be travelling at 32 mph. The UTV was stopped, and the driver was found to be operating without safety certification. The driver was cited for careless operation of an ATV and operating without safety certificate.
At 4:06 p.m. an officer observed an ATV operating on a prohibited route. The driver was found to be under the age of 16 and was cited for operation on roadway under the age of sixteen.
06-09-2021
At 3:59 p.m. officers responded to a local department store for a report of a retail theft. Officers discovered a female party had attempted to leave the store with a cart full of merchandise without paying. The merchandise totaled approximately $400.00. The female was arrested for the theft and brought to the jail.
06-10-2021
At 1:15 a.m. an officer investigated a vandalism complaint in reference to damage done to the old railroad bridge along the River Bend Trail. The officer located damage done to the cables along the railing of the bridge. The investigation is ongoing.
At 3:37 p.m. officers responded to the Probation and Parole Office to take a male party into custody for a probation violation. The male was arrested and escorted over to the Lincoln County Jail and booked in on the probation violation.
At 5:39 p.m. an officer was dispatched to a residence in reference to a female party’s vehicle being egged the night prior. There was no apparent damage to the vehicle other than the remainder of the eggs being left behind. The investigation is ongoing.

At 3:01 a.m. a caller reported a female had pointed a gun at him and others at an after-bar-party at a residence. A male was arrested for violating a domestic abuse injunction. Investigation continues into the entire matter.
At 1:00 p.m. a male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Dept. of Corrections.
At 4:16 p.m. a caller reported a suspect had stolen some electronics from his vehicle. The case is actively being investigated.
06-12-21
At 1:02 a.m. a coin purse was found at a park and turned over by a good Samaritan. The purse contained a small amount of cash and an ID card for a female. The officer is attempting to locate the owner to return her purse.
At 9:29 a.m. a credit card was found and turned over by a good Samaritan. The owner was contacted and requested it be destroyed.
At 8:02 p.m. a small suitcase was found and turned over by a good Samaritan, after he saw it fall off a vehicle. The owner could not be identified by anything within the bag. It will be held at the Police Department in case the owner comes forward.
06-13-21
At 11:05 a.m. a wallet was found in a shopping cart at a store and turned in by a good Samaritan. The owner was located and the wallet returned to her.
At 2:52 p.m. a wallet was found on the side of the road and turned in by a good Samaritan. The owner was determined to be from Green Bay, and an officer was able to make phone contact. She requested the wallet be turned over to her mother, who resides in Merrill, later in the week.
At 4:10 p.m. a caller reported observing a fight between two males outside of a restaurant. They then left together in a vehicle and the caller was able to provide a registration plate. As the registered owner resided outside of the City a deputy made contact, and it was found two brothers had been arguing, leading to the physical altercation. One claimed he had been pushed but was not injured, nor did he wish for any enforcement action against his brother.
At 7:40 p.m. a caller reported her juvenile granddaughter was out of control. It was found an argument occurred between the grandmother and two granddaughters, and the grandfather stepped in. The juvenile granddaughter struck her grandfather, who then armed himself with a machete. The grandfather put the machete away, and the two granddaughters and the granddaughter’s boyfriend became upset that he had displayed the machete, and they began battering him. The grandfather then armed himself with a board and struck the granddaughter. The grandfather, adult granddaughter, and her boyfriend were all arrested for disorderly conduct, and the juvenile granddaughter will be referred to Social Services for battery and disorderly conduct.
