Godzilla vs. Kong (in theatres now)
Rated PG-13 for the obvious violence and some child peril and a touch of off-color language.
After multiple release date changes, Godzilla vs. Kong has at long last arrived in cinemas.
Originally slated to hit the big screen on November 20, 2020, one would think with the extra time, they would have gone back and filled in a few of the plot holes that are scattered throughout the film, but that was not to be. And really, why should they? This is a film about a giant lizard and a giant gorilla having a turf battle. Anyone expecting or wanting it to make sense should probably stay home and watch “Downtown Abby.”
For the rest of us, boy howdy, lets grab the popcorn and have some fun!
So, that being said, here is the breakdown: Kong is relaxing on Skull Island with his gal pal Jia (Newcomer Kaylee Hottle) and her adopted mother, Ilene (Rebecca Hall, Iron Man 3). Meanwhile, Godzilla, absent for three years, shows up and lays waste to Pensacola, Florida, and nobody can figure out why.
Insert subplot about an evil corporation and megalomaniacal CEO and a trio of spunky conspiracy busters that has almost nothing to do with anything else going on, except for a podcast about Godzilla, and then what follows is 1:58 minutes of pure cinematic fun, I try to stay spoiler free on these, but I do have to say one thing; the filmmakers really went out of their way to make the action scenes something new and exciting.
Godzilla vs. Kong gets a solid three out of five stars, because it’s just fun and the action scenes are just screaming to be seen on the big screen with a big bucket of popcorn.
