Girls beat East at home game

The Merrill Varsity Girls Basketball team played Wausau East at a home game on Wednesday, Feb. 3. “We got off to a slow start,” said Coach Adam Smith. “After making the first basket, we found ourselves down 12 with a score of 15-3. We regrouped and battled back into the game and took an 8-point lead at the break. We came out and extended that lead, but allowed them to come back within 3 before going on our final run to stretch the lead back out to 13.”
Claire Drew (5 FG, 3 3pt, 2 FT, 1 stl) was the Lady Jays’ high scorer with 15 points. Prayla Pyan (5 FG, 1 3pt, 2 FT, 2 ast), at 6’0” tall, made her presence known on the court, putting up 13 points. Courtney Krueger (5 FG, 1 3pt, 6 ast, 3 stl) followed with 11 points.
“Prayla played a great game, ending up with 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting,” Coach Smith said. “It is nice to see things starting to really click with her. I am very proud of how she has progressed over the season.”
“Claire had another great game and led us in scoring again with 15,” Smith said. “She really has been playing some great basketball, and she is very enjoyable to watch.”
