Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reports

A 19-year old Merrill man will be referred to the Lincoln County District Attorney on drug charges following an incident in the Town of Merrill on Thursday.

Deputies arrested a 34-year old Merrill man Friday morning after finding a vehicle in the median of US Hwy 51 at 12:44 a.m. near County Rd H. The driver was arrested for a third offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

A theft of gasoline resulted in two high speed chases Saturday. At 8:42 a.m. a gas station in Tripoli reported a vehicle had pumped gasoline and left without paying. An attempt to locate was broadcasted by the E-911 Communications Center and a short time later a Trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol located the vehicle on US Hwy 8 in Oneida County. The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle and resulted in a pursuit. The Trooper terminated the chase for safety reasons near the city of Rhinelander. Rhinelander Police later located the vehicle and attempted to stop it but the driver fled from them as well. Around 10:15 a.m. the Langlade County Sheriff’s Office advised a vehicle matching the description was spotted in Antigo and was last seen traveling west on State Rd 64. A Lincoln County deputy located the vehicle in the Town of Pine River and attempted to stop it. The driver refused and led deputies on a high speed pursuit. Officers from the Merrill Police Department attempted to use a tire deflation device to stop the vehicle but the suspect was able to avoid it. Lincoln County Deputies pursued the vehicle southbound on USH 51 into Marathon County before deputies from that agency took the pursuit over. The chase ended near the State Rd 153 exit at Mosinee. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 38-year old Appleton man. He was wanted by the Winnebago County Sheriff for contempt of court on a drug charge, the Waupaca County Sheriff for a misdemeanor theft charge, and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for violating the terms of his probation. The man was placed on probation due to a felony conviction of possession of methamphetamine. The man faces charges in Lincoln County of fleeing an officer.
