A seven-run fourth inning for Marshfield put Merrill in a big hole, that Post 46 was unable to dig themselves out of, as the Blue Devils topped Merrill 9-4.
In the fourth inning, a mix of hard hit balls and misplays in the field, allowed Marshfield to jump out to a 7-0 lead. However, Post 46 responded by scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Walks issued to Peyton Becker and Jayden Sus, set up Jake Bailey for a single to right field, driving in a run. Later, a single for Holden Smith drove in two more Merrill runs. Piersen Pyan drove in Post 46’s final run of the game, with a single to right field, scoring Smith from third base. The Blue Devils topped off their win with two runs in the seventh inning, beating Merrill 9-4.
Brett Seubert started on the bump for Merrill, pitching three innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, while striking out two batters. Alex Gehrke finished the game, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out two batters.
Leading hitters for Post 46 include: Holden Smith (2H, RBI, R), Piersen Pyan (2H, RBI), Jake Bailey (H, RBI, R), Peyton Becker (H, R, BB) and Jayden Sus (H, R, BB).
