March 22
At 2:58 p.m., an officer responded to the office of Probation and Parole to take a male party into custody for a probation violation. The male was taken into custody and transported to the jail.

At 5:23 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The passenger was found to have an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant was confirmed; the male was placed under arrest, and was transported to the jail.

March 23
At 2:26 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop for a speeding violation. The officer observed indicators that the driver had been consuming intoxicants. The driver agreed to perform field sobriety tests. The driver was able to complete the tests and the officer did not observe enough evidence to show impairment. The driver was however arrested for a violation of absolute sobriety as he was only 19 years of age. He agreed to submit to the intoximeter and as a result was additionally cited for operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration.

At 8:10 a.m., a caller reported her elderly father had been scammed of several thousand dollars. It was found the scammer(s) had contacted the man informing him he had won five million dollars and a new car in a sweepstakes. The scammer convinced the man that in order to receive his prizes he needed to send them money for taxes. This scam began the previous month with various scammers calling him since to convince him to send more money to receive the prizes. The investigation is ongoing.

At 11:16 a.m., a caller reported observing a handgun in the river below a bridge at Stange’s Park. The gun was removed with assistance from the fire department and was found to be a BB gun.

At 1:29 p.m., a caller reported they had heard a noise from their window. They found someone had shot a bb at the window causing damage. They peered outside and did not see or hear anyone. Officers checked with the neighbors who also did not observe anyone.

At 6:12 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop after recognizing a driver that he knew did not have a valid driver’s license. Additionally the registration plate attached did not belong to the vehicle it was on and was expired since 2018. The driver was arrested for operating without a valid driver’s license (2nd + offense). He was additionally cited for expired registration, defective/modified exhaust and operating without insurance.

March 24
At 8:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to a wanted person complaint. The Department of Corrections advised a male party was in violation of his monitoring device and they wanted him arrested for the violation. Contact was made with the male party who was taken into custody and was transported to the jail for the Probation violation.

March 26
There were four individuals taken into custody for various probation violations at the request of Probation and Parole.

March 28
At 10:15 a.m., officers responded to the office of Probation and Parole to take a male party into custody for a probation violation. The male was transported to the jail.

At 11:43 a.m., officers responded to the office of Probation and Parole for an intoxicated male party that needed to be taken into custody for a probation violation. He was transported to the jail.

At 6:13 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check complaint. The anonymous caller advised there were people smoking marijuana and there was a juvenile present. Officers made contact at an apartment where they could hear numerous people talking inside. A female answered the door and officers detected an odor of intoxicants on her breath. She denied drinking but displayed signs of intoxication. The female was cited for underage drinking as she was not of age. The initial information was unfounded.

March 29
Officers took a report of an abuse to child incident that had occurred in the City of Merrill. Based off of the investigation, an adult male was taken into custody for child abuse and transported to the jail.

At 2:32 p.m., an officer located a male subject whom he knew had a warrant for his arrest. As the Officer was going to make contact with the male, he observed the male drop something to the ground. The male was taken into custody on the warrant. The item dropped to the ground was found to be a tactical smoke grenade. That item was seized and further charges may be forthcoming.

March 30
At 12:31 p.m., an officer responded to a business in the 1000 block of North Center Avenue in regards to a suspicious vehicle. The responding officer made contact with the occupant of the vehicle and during the course of the contact, it was found that the male subject had a warrant for his arrest. The male subject was taken into custody and transported to the jail on the active warrant.

At 1:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of a business on Pine Ridge Avenue for a report of a male subject that had walked up to a person in a vehicle and began yelling at them and pulled a handgun out. Officers were able to locate the male subject and he was taken into custody. The male subject was found to be intoxicated. He was taken to the jail for multiple charges.
