ONSTAR phoned a crash into the Sheriff’s Office at 11:48 a.m. Monday morning after the vehicle left the roadway at Iverson Road and Crass Road. The driver, a 34-year-old Tomahawk woman, was traveling too fast when she approached the corner causing her vehicle to leave the road. No injuries were reported.

Several fires were reported to the Sheriff’s Office this week. On Monday a UTV had started on fire and was melting the siding of a nearby garage in the Town of Harrison. On Thursday a riding lawn mower caught fire at a residence in Pine River. On Friday a pile of vegetation rekindled and began burning into a wooded area in the Town of Bradley.

Two Minnesota men were arrested Wednesday evening on drug charges after a traffic stop in the Town of Merrill. The deputy noted the smell of marijuana and requested the Merrill PD Eros to the scene. Eros alerted to the odor of illegal drugs in the vehicle and a search found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The driver, a 25-year-old South Saint Paul man, was charged with a felony offense of possession of marijuana as a repeat offender and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The passenger, a 28-year-old Lakeville, MN, man was arrested on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A 54-year-old Merrill man was arrested and a juvenile will be referred to the DNR after a poaching incident was investigated Thursday evening in the Town of Harding. Deputies were sent to a report of a deer being shot in a field off of West End Drive. Deputies spoke with residents of the neighborhood to let them know of the incident. A 54-year-old man saw a UTV matching the description and followed the suspect who was a 14-year-old boy. Deputies believe the 54-year-old struck the UTV causing it to crash. No one was injured. The 54-year-old was arrested for first degree recklessly endangering safety and obstructing an officer. The teenager admitted to the poaching incident and that matter was turned over to the DNR.

An 18-year-old Tomahawk man was taken into custody Thursday night after a deputy observed a vehicle speeding on US Hwy. 51. The deputy stopped the man on County Rd. S at US Hwy. 51 after he observed a vehicle traveling at 120 MPH. The man was cited for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and speeding.

A 28-year-old Tomahawk woman was arrested Friday morning on a battery charge. The woman was involved in an altercation at Town of Bradley establishment at around 1:30 a.m. in which she struck the victim several times.

A 36-year-old Green Bay man was arrested Saturday morning on a felony OWI offense. A deputy stopped the vehicle the man was driving on County Rd. K near County Rd. FF for an equipment violation. The deputy could smell and see marijuana in the vehicle. He was taken into custody on the felony fourth offense OWI charge.

The number of deer crashes remains high with 16 being reported this past week. On Monday evening a bear was found struck and killed on County Rd. A west of US Hwy. 51. On Saturday evening a Tomahawk woman struck a bear on County Rd. D near Shorewood Road, that animal ran off after the crash.
