On Thursday night the Merrill volleyball team hosted the Marshfield Tigers in a conference match. Merrill would dominate the Tigers as they swept them, winning in three straight sets.

“I felt pretty good about the way the girls played tonight,” comments Merrill head coach Kris Krug. “There were a lot of distractions going into the match. I was hoping that once we started we’d be able to focus on our main goal which was to come out swinging big – and that’s exactly what we did.”

Merrill would take the first set by a score of 25-10. The second set saw Marshfield lead for most of the set, however Merrill would come back to take the 25-23 win. Coach Krug commented on the second set saying, “In the second set, Marshfield started to put up a solid block, which we weren’t expecting because in the first set their block just wasn’t there. It threw us for a loop immediately. At one point we were down by 7, but we continued to chip away at them and got settled in.”

Merrill then went on to dominate the third set, winning by a score of 25-7. “Set 3 went just like set 1 – we took control of the match. Our setters were clicking really well with our big hitters, so I feel like we were able to polish up our offense compared to what it has been,” added coach Krug.

Merrill has a busy schedule for the next two weeks and coach Krug is hoping this game will give her team a boost, “Tonight’s game gave us the confidence we needed as we will be entering the next 2 weeks playing nearly 6 matches.”

Merrill’s next game will be at Eau Claire North on Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m.
