Bluejay grapplers fall to West

The Merrill wrestling team hosted Wausau West last Thursday night in a conference match up. The Bluejays were unable to take care of their conference foe as West won by a score of 54-21.

The match started out with the 138 weight class where Brody Gehrke got Merrill started pinning his opponent in 5:49. After a 4-1 loss in the 145 weight class, Carter Bayer got Merrill another win beating his opponent 8-3 in the 152 weight class. Bradley Leiskau mad quick work of his match pinning his opponent in 38 seconds. After Leiskau’s win, the Merrill wrestlers went down by pin in the next three matches before Noah Bolling was able to snap the losing streak with a pin in 3:49.

Following Bolling’s win, Merrill went on to lose the rest of the matches, falling by a score of 54-21. The Bluejays will hit the mats again on Thursday as they host a varsity invite starting at 8 a.m.
