Merrill tennis dominated by Rapids

Last Tuesday (Sept. 19) the Bluejay tennis team traveled to Wisconsin Rapids to take on Lincoln High School. Rapids was able to handle Merrill as they beat the Bluejays 7-0.
The singles for Merrill were only able to win three sets combined in the loss. The singles scores were Alex Zueger of Rapids beat Anna Skoviera, 6-1, 6-1; Hannah Wangen of Rapids defeated Rachel Rell, 6-0, 6-1; Zoe Gilmaster of Rapids beat Alexandra Johnson, 6-0, 6-0; Maliyah Fiammini of Rapids beat Casie McAllister, 6-0, 6-0.
Merrill’s doubles teams didn’t fair any better, falling in each of their matches. Mia Iwinski-Hannah Nyman of Rapids beat Catherine Murray-Lea Beckman, 6-3, 6-2; Ellie Schuerman-Paige Vruwink of Rapids defeated Sierra Humphrey-Olivia Wheat, 6-2, 6-2; Sophia Wardour-Kiara Coombs of Rapids beat Hailey Schult-Anna Rydeski, 6-4, 6-3.

Ladies find rough road at Pacelli
On Thursday the girls traveled to Stevens Point to take on Pacelli. Merrill was out played by Pacelli and lost by a score of 6-1 with Merrill only able to squeeze out one win.
Pacelli swept the singles matches. Alliey Krusa of Pacelli defeated Anna Skoviera, 6-2, 6-2; Jenelle Higgins of Pacelli beat Rachel Rell, 6-2, 6-0; Morgan Kuckkahn of Pacelli beat Alexandra Johnson, 6-1, 6-2; Stephanie Vaughan of Pacelli defeated Casie McAllister, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play Sophie Schroeder-Amanda Cisewski of Pacelli beat Catherine Murray-Lea Beckman, 6-4, 6-0; Mari Olson-Liz Krupka of Pacelli beat Olivia Wheat-Sierra Humphrey, 6-1, 6-2; Hailey Schult-Anna Rydeski of Merrill defeated Dani Mengel-Leah Shibilski, 6-4, 6-1.
Merrill finished their regular season with a 7-12 record (2-4 conference record). The girls will be back on the court Thursday as they travel to Wausau East for the conference meet at 9 a.m.
