Skaters smother Marshfield

Tuesday night, the Merrill-East Bluejacks played host to Marshfield at the Smith Center and corralled the Tigers 4-2.

The Jacks came out swinging early in the first, with a solo goal from Austin Burgener. The Jacks then unleashed the sticks with a goal from James Pawlicki, followed by another from Ivan DeBroux, assisted by Burgener and Adam Detert.

The Tigers would finally land on the board midway through the second period, only to be answered by the Jacks’ Christian Mattson and Jake Barlet, to set Merrill-East up 4-1.

The Tigers’ last goal came at the 16:59 mark but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Bluejacks co-op team from garnering their second win of the season.

Senior Bluejack goalie Bryce Broeking enjoyed another rock solid performance; allowing just two scores off 40 shots on goal.

“We had to overcome adversity,” comments co-head coach Bill Hauswirth. “We stuck together and came away with the win. Our goaltending by Bryce Broeking, and hustle by our special teams units helped to secure the win.”

The Jacks return to the ice Thursday to take on WVC foe Stevens Point. Game time is set for 7 PM at the K.B Willett Ice Arena in Stevens Point.
