Maple Grove students visit Brickyard School

Maple Grove School students had the opportunity to visit Merrill’s own Brickyard School. Located on the Merrill Festival Grounds, the Brickyard School gave students a chance to look at how schools have changed since the 1870s. Maple Grove School started as a one-room schoolhouse that has expanded several times in its 112-year history. Even though many dressed the part of an early 1900s student, they were in disbelief that there was no technology, not even a phone to call home on.

While the younger students were visiting the Brickyard School, 3rd and 4th graders in Ms. Bandoch’s class were busy at the Upper Playground working on a life size graphing activity that had them learning how to read and plot coordinates on a graph. This activity required a lot of teamwork, not only because it was a blustery day, but to place the longitudinal and latitude points.

Maple Grove School seeks to develop the whole child through the provision of exploratory experiences where students will engage in hands on approach in project development through cultural connections to our traditions, opportunities and our greater community. With winter around the corner, our trail has been cleared for winter snowshoeing in gym class, the garden harvested, and the chickens all nestled ready for the snow to fall.

Maple Grove School, located in Hamburg, is a MAPS public school charter located in Marathon County. All elementary aged students are welcome to join the Maple Grove crews.
