Betty J. Krueger

Betty J. Krueger, age 90, of Merrill, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 at The Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie, WI.

Betty was born January 26, 1926, in Merrill, daughter of the late Harvey and Clara (Jaeger) Emanuel.  She married Donald Krueger on May 15, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill.  He survives.  For 14 years, Betty and Don owned and operated “Krueger’s Place”, in the Town of Doering, Lincoln County.  Betty always kept their business spic and span.  Prior to owning the tavern, Betty worked at the former Anson – Gilkey for 15 years, and she and Don had dairy farmed for 5 years.

Betty enjoyed tending to her flowers, she had a green thumb to be envied. She loved animals of all kinds and anything that came to the door she fed and made a pet of.  Don remembers Betty as the best farm girl out there.  Betty enjoyed fishing and made the best homemade fish fry.  Betty enjoyed canning and cooking and made everything taste great, even wild game.  Betty also enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Donald Krueger of Menomonie, WI; her son, Greg (Bonnie) Krueger of Owatonna, MN; two grandsons, Blake Krueger of Winona, MN and Brent (Cassey) Krueger of Madison Lake, MN; one great-grandson, Lucas Krueger of Madison Lake, MN; two sisters, JoAnn Johnson and MaryAnn Riebe both of Merrill; one brother, Harvey (Betty) Emanuel of Palm Coast, FL; her in-laws, Jeanette Sommi of Merrill, Kenneth (Mitzi) Krueger of Wausau and Leonard (Sharon) Krueger of Gleason; and many nieces and nephews.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Clara Emanuel; her sister, Elaine Gano; her brothers, Roger (Darla) Emanuel, Jerry Emanuel and infant James Emanuel; and her in-laws, Jake Sommi and Dorothy (Bill) Hommerding.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. William “Bill” Trosien will officiate.  Burial will take place at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Eagle River.
