Hatchet swimmers make a splash at Colby

The Hatchet varsity and JV swimming teams traveled to Colby on Thursday to face off against Colby-Abbotsford. Varsity had a terrific night, having a combined team score of 94 compared to Colby-Abby’s 71. The JV Hatchets scored nine against Colby-Abby’s 59.

Right away for event two, the 200-yard medley relay team for the Hatchets consisting of Rachel Dallman, Kirstin Marcks, Megan Marcks and Kylee Theiler placed first with a team time of 2:02.28. Kaylie Svacina placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:17.36, with Jackie Elliott coming in second at 2:29.10.

Katy Volz placed first in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:22.92 with Theiler placing second at 2:32.76. Shelby Benaszeski placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.09 and Megan Marcks was right behind her at 27.61, good for second. Volz also took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.42. Megan Marcks was right behind her with a time of 1:00.33.

The Hatchets owned the 100-yard butterfly, with Dallman, Svacina and Elliot getting times of 1:10.76, 1:16.02 and 1:24.46 for first, second and third places, respectively. Kristin Marcks dominated the 500-yard freestyle with a time 6:22.34.

For the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Hatchets nabbed first and second places. The first place A team consisting of Volz, M. Marcks, Svacina and Theiler got a time of 1:48.63 while the B team consisting of Elliot, Savanah Ristau, Allyson Carstensen and K. Marcks got a time of 1:59.63.

In the 100- yard backstroke, Dallman took first with a time of 1:09.61 with Benaszeski right behind here at 1:10.85.

Hatchet varsity swimming will have their next meet on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Lakeland at the Tomahawk High School.
