Peter J. Hanson, age 76, of Wausau, formerly of Merrill, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at his home.
Peter was born June 21, 1939, in Merrill, son of the late Harold and Viorene (Knospe) Hanson. He married Beverly Golisch on August 14, 1988 at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. She survives. Peter enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957, and was honorably discharged in 1987. He served as the Vice President of the church council at the former Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Merrill. Peter enjoyed fishing, gardening, yard work, and watching the Green Bay Packers, war movies, and Fox News. Peter’s family affectionately described him as a “computer nerd.” Peter was also a caregiver for his brother, Halvor.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Hanson; one daughter, Loretta Hanson; two sons, Brynn Hanson and Harold Hanson; two sisters, Wanda Verbist and Harriet (Joseph) Slaga; two brothers, Halvor Hanson and Clark (Jackie) Hanson; three sisters-in-law, Norma Hanson, Barbara Golisch, and Sandy Sann; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Viorene Hanson; one brother, Carlton Hanson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Milford and Mildred Golisch; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Hanson and Norma Schmidt; and three brothers-in-law, Kermit Golisch, Marlin ‘Butch’ Sann, and Gilbert Sann.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 14, 2015, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ. The Rev. Missy Holdorf will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
