Former Senator US Russ Feingold (D) made a campaign stop in Merrill Friday afternoon, joining an entourage of local residents on a downtown tour including River District Development Foundation director Gene Bebel and Lincoln County Board District 11 Supervisor Hans Breitenmoser Jr.
During his tour on Friday, Feingold stopped in to visit several businesses, speaking with downtown business owners and area residents on a variety of topics including education funding and student loan reform.
The Janesville, Wis native served for 10 years in the state senate (1983-1993) before moving on to represent Wisconsin in the US Senate from 1993-2011.
Feingold lost the 2010 election to Ron Johnson (R) by a 5% vote margin.
Feingold announced his candidacy for the 2016 election in May and will be wrapping up a tour of all 72 Wisconsin counties next week.
