A 50-year-old Illinois man was injured after a one vehicle rollover Friday afternoon in the Town of Bradley. Cell 911 callers reported a vehicle traveling on south US Hwy. 51 that was driving recklessly. As deputies and a trooper attempted to get into position to stop the driver, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed at US Hwy. 51 and County Rd. S. The driver was transported to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital by Tomahawk EMS and then taken by ambulance to Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield where he was released on Sunday. It was suspected a medical condition may have played a role in the incident.
A 47-year-old Gleason woman received several citations after the Recreation Deputy stopped a boat with no lights on Lake Nokomis Friday evening. Just after 9 p.m. the deputy spotted the boat traveling on the lake without lights. When he noted the driver showing signs of intoxication he had her perform field sobriety tests. As a result of those tests she was taken into custody for a first offense of operating a boat while intoxicated. She was also cited for refusing to take a chemical test and operating without required lights. The driver was released to a responsible party.
A 40-year-old Cudahy man is safe after capsizing his boat on Lake Mohawksin Saturday evening. A caller reported that a boat had overturned and the occupant was brought to shore on the Pfeifer Road side of the lake. The Recreation Deputy spoke with the operator who told him that he was shifting himself in the boat and overturned it. The man was not wearing a PFD and initially tried to swim to shore but took refuge on a stump instead. A neighbor brought the man back to shore and the Rec. Deputy assisted in retrieving the boat on Sunday morning.
Deputies are crediting a seat belt from preventing possible severe injuries after a one vehicle crash Sunday morning in the Town of Scott. A cell 911 caller reported that a vehicle had left the roadway and crashed on US Hwy. 51 at County Rd. Q at 5:08 a.m. When deputies arrived the 19-year-old Milton, WI woman told them she had been traveling north at around 80 MPH when she fell asleep at the wheel. The woman woke up when her vehicle hit the rumble strips and she over-corrected, causing her vehicle to roll over at least five times before coming to rest on the ramp for northbound US Hwy. 51. The woman was transported from the scene to Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center and was later taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital where she was in good condition as of Sunday evening. The deputy investigating noted she would be cited for failing to have control of her vehicle.
A 36-year-old Merrill man was arrested Sunday evening on a warrant charge. Deputies had been checking a home on Tesch Road in the Town of Harding west of Merrill after the Wisconsin Department of Corrections issued a warrant for the man for violating terms of his probation. Additionally deputies want to speak to the man about a disturbance at his residence earlier this month. The man was located in the home and brought to the Lincoln County Jail and held.
The number of car deer crashes has been going down the last two weeks. Eight crashes were reported last week, and seven were reported this past week. A car turkey crash was also reported. A Merrill man struck the bird Saturday morning on State Rd. 64 near High Ridge Road in the Town of Pine River, shattering his windshield.
