Officer ‘Eros’ of the Merrill Police Department’s K9 unit celebrated birthday #3 on Tuesday.

According to his partner, Officer Matt Drabek, the 3 year old German Shepherd spent most of the day riding along with Drabek on personal errands, which happens to be one of Eros favorite activities. As for his birthday present, Eros received a shank bone from the Drabek family which he thoroughly enjoyed. The two will be partaking in another one of Eros’ favorite past times on Tuesday evening, as they head out on patrol.

Eros was born in Eringshausen, a city in western Germany, on March 17, 2011 and came to Steing Tal kennels in Campbellsport, Wisconsin last January. In May of last year, Eros became the first K9 unit in department history thanks in large part to the generosity of the Bierman Family Foundation. Since his first patrol, Eros has been on 176 total deployments. 142 of those deployments have been drug sniffs of which 26 resulted in successful finds. In addition, Eros has assisted in 5 building searches, 5 building drug sniffs, 4 drug sniffs at the Lincoln County Jail and 4 tracking deployments.

As Drabek adds, although really Eros loves his job, he also enjoys the many demonstrations and presentations he has performed for various community groups. To date, the duo have participated in over 20 such activities.
