Phyllis Mussell, age 71, of Merrill, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Phyllis was born January 8, 1943, in Merrill, daughter of the late Carl and Angeline (Nutter) Pophal, Sr. She married Paul Mussell on July 15, 1961, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. He survives. She had worked at the former Holy Cross Hospital as a dietitian. She then worked for Canteen Services at Wausau Paper Mill – Brokaw. She enjoyed taking care of her grandson and spending time with her family. Phyllis also liked shopping at rummage sales, visiting the cottage on Lake Nokomis, going to eat with friends, working in the woods making firewood, and snowmobiling in her younger years.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Mussell of Merrill; one son, Allen Mussell of Merrill; one grandson, Phillip Mussell of Merrill; two sisters, Beverly Kleist of Merrill, and Margie Mae (Roger) Young of Tomahawk; one brother, Carl (Audrey) Pophal, Jr. of Merrill; one sister-in-law, Trude Pophal of Merrill; and many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Angeline Pophal, Sr.; four sisters, Judith Kleinschmidt, Betty Jane Knoll, Nancy Pophal, and Jean Ann Wojcik; two brothers, David Pophal and Robert Pophal; and three brothers-in-law, David Kleinschmidt, George Kleist, and Lawrence Knoll, Sr.
A memorial service for Phyllis will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Kyle Carnes will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
