Piggly Wiggly Midwest announces that Bill and Debbie Schultz, current operator of Lee’s Piggly Wiggly in Mosinee, has signed an agreement to purchase the Merrill Piggly Wiggly store from Steve and Phil Drew, who announce their retirement. The transaction is set for Nov. 29, 2014.
The Drew family has been in the grocery business in Merrill for 70 years, the last 25 years as Piggly Wiggly.
“I would like to thank our customers for their patronage and I am confident that Bill and Debbie will do a great job,” Steve Drew said. “We will miss the people, but it’s the time in our life to enjoy retirement.”
Lee’s Piggly Wiggly has been operating since 1988 and is owned by Schultz and his two sisters. Schultz said, “We are excited about the opportunity to expand into Merrill and look forward to serving and getting to know the people and the city of Merrill. We feel fortunate to be in two great cities and will strive to be involved locally as good business partners.”
Both Piggly Wiggly Stores will continue to offer the same amenities that all Piggly Wiggly’s throughout Wisconsin offer, including its Pampered to Perfection Produce, an “in store” bakery, a full service customer friendly deli department, a fresh meat department offering Certified Angus Beef, Gerber Amish Natural Chicken, Farmland Natural Pork along with a wide variety of fresh and frozen seafood and a full liquor department.
Piggly Wiggly Midwest supplies 106 Piggly Wiggly supermarkets, in the greater Wisconsin and northern Illinois areas, three Lena’s Foods stores in Milwaukee, nine Butera Market stores and two EuroFresh stores in the Chicagoland area. Since 1911, Sheboygan, Wis. has been the home to Piggly Wiggly’s headquarters where it has its corporate offices and two of its distribution centers. A third distribution center is located in Milwaukee. Piggly Wiggly Midwest is the fastest growing grocery wholesaler in the state.
