Margaret Moellendorf

Margaret Moellendorf, 93, of Wausau passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 surrounded by her family at Our House Senior Living, Wausau.
She was born November 13, 1919 in the town of Rib Falls to the late Emil and Olga (Wilde) Kummerow. After graduating from Wausau High School, Margaret attended Marathon County Normal School and began her teaching career at the age of 17. She met and fell in love with Marvin Moellendorf, they were married on May 31, 1941 in the town of Rib Falls. Margaret helped Marvin on their town of Berlin farm while earning her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
For 28 years she taught in the Wausau School District with 20 of those years at Stettin Elementary School. After retiring, Margaret volunteered at Grant School Library, Special Olympics, the Headstart program and the Little Red School House in Marathon Park. She was a member of the Marathon County and Wisconsin Retired Educators Associations. Margaret enjoyed baking for her family, bowling, gardening and playing cards.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, VerJean (Wayne) Detert of Wausau, Maralee Moellendorf of Wausau, two sons, James (Nancy) Moellendorf of South Elgin, Ill, Michael (Debbie) Moellendorf of Merrill, five grandchildren, Michelle Detert of Wausau, Todd (Carolyn) Detert of Wausau, Corey (Julia) Detert of New York, NY, Jeff (Carla) Moellendorf of Geneva, Ill, Jessica (Peter) Himmelreich of Nashville, TN, five great grandchildren, Olivia and Lloyd Moellendorf, Natalie Detert, Aidan and Brooklynn Detert, and two sisters, Edna Schroeder and Helen Zumann, both of Wausau. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, brother, Delos Kummerow, sister-in-law, Edna Moelledorf and two brother-in-laws Bill Zumann and Gilbert Schroeder.
Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, October 12, 2013 at First English Lutheran Church, 402 N. 3rd Ave, Wausau. Reverend Erik Olson will officiate. Burial will be in Rib View Cemetery, town of Stettin. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
