Backpacks for Kids is this week

The Backpack distribution for the 2013 school year is just around the corner. Over 400 backpacks will be filled and given to those families of K-5 students who qualify under federal guidelines.
Eligible families should bring the completed form they received in the mail to T.B. Scott Library this Saturday, Aug. 24 between 9:30-11:30 a.m. The library will not open before 9:30 on the day of distribution. There are enough backpacks and supplies for all qualified families.
Monetary contributions can be accepted at any time, but supplies need to be donated by Thursday afternoon. Most needed are the backpacks themselves. Other supplies needed include: primary color wide ruled notebooks, primary color folders, highlighters, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, washable markers, school glue, small erasers that fit on pencils, black, blue, and red pens, pencil cases, No. 2 pencils, and blunt and pointed scissors.
Donations can be dropped off at two locations, River Valley Bank and Walmart. Tax-deductible contributions can be mailed to MFTHCI-Backpacks, P.O. Box 793 in Merrill.
If you have questions about the Backpack Project or would like to volunteer to help, please contact Debi McGregor with the Family Resource Center at (715) 539-9228 or Linda Becker at (715) 873-4564.
