Free summer lunch for kids, teens coming soon

For some children, summer vacation means “fun in the sun.” For others, it means the increased risk of hunger.
Many children in the Merrill community are eligible to receive free or reduced-price breakfasts and lunches during the school year. However, when the school doors close for summer vacation, that safety net of nutritious meals comes to an end as well.
With that in mind, Christ United Methodist Church is prepared to initiate a free summer lunch program for children in our community. Beginning Wednesday, June 12, and for every consecutive Wednesday of summer vacation, picnic lunches consisting of a sandwich, fruit, vegetable and juice box will be shared absolutely free of charge for children and teens.
The free lunch will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. (or while supplies last) at the Stange’s Park covered picnic shelter area (Third Street). Volunteers will be on-site to help serve the free lunches to any and all children/teens that stop by.
If any individuals, groups or organizations are interested in becoming involved in this summer lunch program, additional support is very much welcome and encouraged to enable the program to flourish and perhaps grow into a community wide effort. Feel free to contact Christ United Methodist Church for more information (715-536-4676 or [email protected]).
