THS boys nipped twice in Marathon

The Hatchet boys hoops team played quite well in last week’s Marathon Holiday tourney and all it got to show for it was a pair of losses.
Marathon improved to 9-1 with Thursday’s 63-55 overtime win over THS, and Tomahawk lost 48-47 to Athens on Friday.
“I thought we played well and can really build off of this,” THS coach Tim Albert said. “The kids played hard with a lot of intensity and enthusiasm.”
The Hatchets used an 8-4 mini-run to trail Marathon 14-13 after a quarter, but fell back 28-22 at the half.
A 7-2 start to the second half cut it to 30-29, then THS used a 8-2 rally to take the lead at 39-38, capped by Jared Jarvensivu’s half-court buzzer-beater. Two Jarvensivu free throws gave THS a 48-45 edge with just :24 left, but a Re Raider three tied it up. Marathon jumped out 55-51 in overtime and closed it out with free throws.
Pacing THS were: Jarvensivu (16 p, 5 r, 5 a); Chris Schoone (12 p, 6 r); Lorne Ahrens (8 p, 6 r); Jon Nyberg (6 p, 3 st, 3 a, 2 bl); Fletcher Schoone (10 p); and Jordan Roessler (3 r).
Tomahawk-FG: 19-50 (438%); FT: 12-19 (63%).
No details were available for the Athens game.
