Lincoln County Sheriff?s reports

No injuries were reported but traffic was slowed for almost an hour after a crash last Tuesday evening in the Town of Pine River. Deputies responded to State Rd 64 and County Rd W after the two vehicle crash was reported to 911 at 5:43 p.m. When deputies arrived they found both vehicles blocking the intersection with fluids leaking heavily. Pine River Firefighters responded to the scene to contain and clean the fluid leak and assist with traffic. A 46 year old Merrill woman will be cited for failing to yield from a stop sign.
A 25 year old Sheboygan County man was arrested early Friday morning on a drug charge after a traffic stop in the Town of Birch. A deputy stopped a vehicle in which Jonathan E. Struve was a passenger on US Hwy 51 north of County Rd J after he witnessed a littering violation. When the deputy approached the vehicle he noted the strong smell of marijuana coming from it. During a search marijuana was located which Struve claimed ownership of. He was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was booked on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana. He was released after posting bond.
A 25 year old Tomahawk man was arrested Friday evening after a deputy with the assistance of a Tomahawk Police officer responded to a trespassing complaint. A call to the Sheriff’s Office just after 7 p.m. reported Marques Anthony Stewart was in violation of his probation rules by going on property in the Town of Bradley. When law enforcement arrived they could not substantiate the rule violation but a check showed Stewart was wanted on a warrant for previously violating terms of his probation. He was taken into custody and brought to the Lincoln County Jail and held. A 49 year old Tomahawk woman was taken into custody late Friday night on a traffic charge. A deputy stopped a vehicle being operated by Karen L. Kosidowski-Bergen on County Rd E near State Rd 86 after a deputy observed her vehicle cross the center line. Kosidowski-Bergen admitted to drinking and was placed through field sobriety tests and taken into custody on a first offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. She was later released to a responsible party.
A 42 year old Gleason man was arrested Saturday evening on charges after deputies responded to a disturbance report in the Town of Birch. Just after 8:30 p.m. Cory C. Townsend called 911 to report he was involved in the altercation at his residence in the 5000 block of County Rd J. After deputies interviewed Townsend and the alleged suspect they determined that Townsend was the primary aggressor in the incident. He was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with battery and disorderly conduct unable to post bond Townsend will be held for a bond hearing Monday afternoon. The other party involved, a 37 year old Merrill woman, will have charges forwarded to the district attorney for review.
A 21 year old Merrill man was taken into custody after deputies responded to a report of an impaired driver early Sunday morning. Just after 5 a.m. a resident of the Town of Merrill reported a vehicle left the roadway and landed in his yard on Olivotti Lake Rd. The property owner followed the suspect and asked him to pull over, which the driver did just feet from the railroad crossing east of Pier Street. When deputies arrived they found Doug G. Heath sleeping behind the wheel of his vehicle. When deputies were able to wake Heath they moved his vehicle out of danger and asked him to perform field sobriety tests but he refused. Heath was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was cited for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated before being released to a responsible party.
A 50 year old Fitchburg man was taken into custody on a criminal traffic charge Sunday afternoon after a deputy responded to a report of an impaired driver in the Town of Bradley. At 1:45 p.m. the Price County Sheriff’s Office reported a reckless driver driving east on US Hwy 8 that was reported to be all over the roadway and committing illegal passes. A deputy spotted the vehicle as it turned onto County Rd U and stopped it after he saw the vehicle cross the center line. James E. Borkenhagen was asked to perform field sobriety tests. As a result of those tests he was taken into custody on a third offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Unable to find a responsible driver Borkenhagen was brought to the Lincoln Jail where he will be held until sober. Borkenhagen was also cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license and having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. A Trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with the arrest.
Tomahawk Firefighters and a deputy responded to a grass fire Saturday in the Town of Tomahawk. Just after 2 p.m. a cell 911 call reported the fire on Faust Rd. When the deputy arrived on the scene he noted Tomahawk Firefighters had extinguished the fire after about 100 yards of grass had been burnt. Firefighters reported the fire started after sparks came from a burn barrel that had rusted out. The information will be forwarded to the DNR fire ranger for possible enforcement action.
A 33 year old Irma man was arrested Sunday evening on a charge of probation violation. Deputies went to a residence on 1st Ave in the Town of Birch to investigate a complaint of interference with child custody. While speaking with Mark A. Hull, deputies noted an odor of intoxicant and Hull admitted to drinking in violation of his probation rules. Hull was brought to the Lincoln County Jail and held.
Nineteen people struck deer this past week in Lincoln County. Only three of those crashes took place after the start of the gun deer season.
