Joan Adams

Joan Adams, (nee, Quilling), 88, passed away May 24, 2012, at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.
She was born on November 2, 1923, in Menomonie, daughter of the late Erwin and Fannie (Decker) Quilling. On June 15, 1945, Joan married Harlan L. Adams. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2004.
Survivors include daughters, Ann (Don) Engelbrecht, Sue (Dick) Dehart, and Jane (Jim) Hulke; son, David (Libby) Adams; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many of her close friends made throughout her life.
Joan met and married her husband while attending UW-Stout, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics. People were important throughout her life and that was the impetus for the variety of activities where she volunteered her time. Her early years were spent supporting her husband and children’s activities. Whether it was Girl Scouts or sports, mom gave of her time and talents when needed. After her husband retired, Joan enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, church and community volunteering, while still being available to help when family and friends needed her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to First Presbyterian Church, Merrill, or to Alzheimer’s research.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, Merrill. The Rev. Donald King will officiate. Entombment will follow in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. Tuesday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and at the church on Wednesday after 10:00 A.M.
