See all the excitement of dog sled racing right here in Merrill for free. The Wisconsin Trailblazers Sled Dog Club will host the ISDRA sanctioned Custom Design Cool Running Sled Dog Race on Saturday, Feb. 4 beginning at 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 5, 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. when trophies are awarded.
The race start and finish line for the 10, 6 and 4 dog classes, as well as Juniors and Skijoring is at Pine River School on Hwy. 64 just east of Merrill. Plus, River Valley Bank is sponsoring family fun activities on the grounds on Saturday. Win free prizes as you drop the puck on the giant Plinko board, pull the dog sled, race your Ottoman, toss a Lucky Dog Pillow, and watch the VIP Dog Sled Race at noon. Area Boy Scouts volunteer their help at the Family Day Activities. Food and refreshments will be available in the warmth of the cafeteria at Pine River School. Deer Run Road, off Hwy. 64 East is an excellent location to watch the Custom Design Cool Running Sled Dog Race from the comfort of your car and the local HAM Radio Emergency Operator Club are manning the trails for safety when the dog sleds cross.
Saturday evening beginning at 5 p.m., an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be served at Lincoln Lanes on North Center Avenue in Merrill. Adults are $7.50; children under 12 are just $5 for this complete dinner. Winners of the Custom Design Cool Running Sled Dog Race Coloring Contest will be announced at this Sled Dog Supper. The public is encouraged to attend to win door prizes and meet the mushers and Wis. Trailblazers Sled Dog members. Day prizes will be awarded to race competitors; who traveled the farthest, Red Lantern Award and more. The winner of the First Star Dog Sled; 1st prize in the Custom Design Cool Running Sled Dog Race Raffle will be drawn at the Sled Dog Supper as well as 2nd prize a framed dog sled print and 3rd place a Custom Design Cool Running Hoodie & Cap.
