Charles “Chuck” August Rubom (CAR) 66, of Rothschild, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was born May 15, 1944 to the late August L. and Helen C. (Krueger) Rubom.
Chuck served in the U.S. Army during the early 1960’s as a hydraulic mechanic stationed in France. After his military career he moved to Merrill and worked for Joe’s Standard and later for the Merrill Street Department. A move to Newport News, VA brought him to work for his brother at Jack’s Cycle Center. After moving to Rothschild, Chuck worked for Del’s Cycle Center and then for Wausau Metals before working for his good friend Rich at G.B. Vending Company. He was a former member of the Marshfield T.N.T. Riders. Chuck was an avid hunter who also enjoyed motorcycle hill climbing and participating in motorcycle racing – especially in the Merrill Ice Drags. There was nothing he loved better than riding his motorcycles.
Survivors include one brother: Jerry (Karen) Rubom of Erie, CO; one sister: Marilyn (Paul) Briest of Waukesha, WI; nieces and nephews: Val (Charlie Jones) St. Marie of Niwot, CO, Jim Rubom of Lake in the Hills, IL, Allan (Diane) Gulke, Joanne Drew, Dennis Gulke, all of Merrill, Brian (Sharon) Gulke of Custer, WI, Janice (Frank Yasunaga) Gulke of Indianapolis, IN, Scott (Vickie) Rubom of Bebee, AR, Debbie Rubom and Dawn Rubom. He was preceded in death by his parents, August & Helen Rubom and one brother, Jack Rubom.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 8, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Waid Funeral Home. Friends may call from 5 – 7 PM Thursday, October 7th and from 2:00 PM until the hour of services on Friday, also at the funeral home. The family has requested memorials be given to the T.B. Scott Library. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
