Merrill Community Foundation awards $5,000 grant to NTC

NTC’s Public Safety Center of Excellence will become host site to Firefighter Candidate Physical Ability Test
Area firefighters will soon be able to complete their Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) at Northcentral Technical College’s (NTC) Public Safety Center of Excellence due to a $5,000 grant awarded by the Merrill Community Foundation.
Currently, potential participants in Central Wisconsin must travel to Eau Claire, Milwaukee or Illinois to complete this test. Upon implementation, it is anticipated that at least 300 participants from NTC’s Fire Medic program and fire departments across the region, state and nation will partake in the CPAT at NTC’s Public Safety Center of Excellence in Merrill.
“This grant award represents the need to provide area firefighters with a local option for the Candidate Physical Ability Test,” said Shelly Mondeik, Vice President for Learning at Northcentral Technical College. “It also represents the partnership between NTC and the Merrill Community Foundation, and for that we are grateful.”
In addition to the Merrill Area Community Foundation, the NTC Foundation is working with a potential anonymous business partner and is researching other foundations to support the proposed project, which is estimated to total almost $40,000.
