Merrill trucking company hauls unique cargo

A huge totem pole passed through Merrill recently on its way to the Lions Camp at Rosholt, WI.
The 44-foot long, 6,000-pound totem pole was transported by B&D Motors of Merrill from woodcarver Peter Balzkewski in Woodruff. The totem pole spent the night on a flatbed trailer in the B&D Motors garage before continuing on its trek to Rosholt.
This is the third totem pole the company has hauled to the Lions Camp. B&D’s involvement was initiated by Don Ashby, a local Lions Club members and former B&D driver.
The Wisconsin Lions Camp at Rosholt has been in operation since 1956, providing camping experiences for children with visual impairments and other disabilities. The camp hosts about 1,300 campers each summer. The first totem pole was erected at the camp in 1966.
