Nick H. Schultz

Nick H. Schultz, age 72, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at his home with his loving wife and family at his side under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. He was born May 11, 1941 in Portage County, WI to the late Nick R. & Ida (Stanczak) Schultz. On December 20, 1986 Nick & Sharon Milbeck were united in marriage in Wausau.
While growing up Nick lived with various loving families, Cliff & Pat Edelburg being his favorite. He attended Keene Elementary School and graduated from Almond High School. Nick proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1966 in France and the USA. He enjoyed comparing military stories with his son, Steve, who also served in the military. Nick was employed at Brinks Security part time and at Kraft Foods in Wausau for 35 years after which time he was forced to retire due to health reasons. He always looked forward to their yearly vacation in Missouri to see his life long best friends, Jack & Hilde Webb. Nothing gave Nick more joy than to take his grandson, Keegan, to watch his son, Mike Schutlz, drag race and smash up cars at the demolition derby. His favorite time of the year was winter when he so loved to snowmobile with LeRoy Stark, Don Herbst and Butch Nemke. Nick rarely missed the car shows and enjoyed antique autos and snowmobiles with his friend, Dave Kottman. In summer he enjoyed his son, Nicholas, taking family members out on the lakes on pontoon rides. Nick also enjoyed meeting his granddaughter, Nicole, at Hugo’s for pizza. He and Sharon would take Brianna & Keegan camping every chance they could. It was always a comical treat to have Estella & Tatum come and visit. Nick’s last days were comforted and enlightened by his step-daughter, Christine.
Nick is survived by his loving wife: Sharon Schultz, Merrill; three sons: Mike (Heather Hoffman) Schultz, Bowler, Steven (Rebecca) Schultz, IL, and Nicholas Schultz, Merrill; step-son: Dr. Steven Schlais, CA; step-daughter: Christine (Bill) Lawrie, Merrill; seven grandchildren: Nicole, Keegan Estella & Tatum Schultz, Brianna Lawrie, Dakota & Kaitlyn Hoffman; and three sisters: Betty (Harold) Schettl, Neenah, Darlene (Gerry) Kost, Branson, MO, and Phyllis (Norman) Keltner, MI. He was also Godfather to Jim Rudolph; brother-in-law to Sandy (friend, Bob Gurzynski) Schmidt, Char & Denny Lewandoski and Tom (Pat) Milbeck; and Uncle Nick to Gary, Vicki, Chris, Laurie, Greg, Linda, Toni, Greg, Lisa, Amanda, Jason, Nancy, Jeremy, Andrea, Russ, Holly, Pam, Kevin & Chris (the late Jenny). Nick’s passing will leave a forever emptiness in our hearts. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Ahuja and his staff at the Cancer Center.
