“Yurgen Markewycz was the Branch Manager of Associated Bank in Merrill in the late 1970’s and 1980’s. Then he left Merrill and several years later Yurgen and his wife, Ranndy, returned to Merrill,” Dee Olsen said. “Yurgen was active in and generous toward the Lions Club, the Merrill Community Homeless Center, Inc. Board of Directors, and the Merrill Historical Society.”
Yurgen passed away unexpectedly in Merrill on Dec. 18, 2023.
“A group of people wanted to remember their dear, departed friend, Yurgen Markewycz, in a special way,” she said. That’s why they opted to have a new Crime Stoppers bench constructed in his honor and placed near where he formerly worked.
“Crime Stoppers of Lincoln County provides a great service to the communities in Lincoln County,” Olsen said.
“In memory of Yurgen, a new Crime Stoppers bench was placed at Associated Bank on E. Main St. in Merrill. Supporting the project were friends - Tom & Pat Burg, Emily Gibson, Don & Carol Heyel, Dee Olsen & Ralph Wangen, Mike & Jean Ravn, Ken & Barb Adams, and the Homeless Center Inc. Board. We hope everyone who knew Yurgen remembers him as they pass this memorial Crime Stoppers bench,” she said.
A group of friends and supporters gathered to honor Yurgen near the new bench on July 29, 2024.
