Wausau West Varsity swimmers outpace the Lady Jays in a pool dual

The Merrill Girls Varsity Swim Team hosted a dual against Wausau West at the Prairie River Middle School pool on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024. Wausau West swimmers were in peak shape and placed high in most events, taking first place honors in 9 of the 11 Varsity events; however, Merrill Varsity Girls took first place in two events:
• Event 4 - 200 Yard Freestyle - Emily Winter with a time of 2:18.32
• Event 14 - 500 Yard Freestyle - Olivia Pajtash with a time of 5:47.24
The Merrill Varsity girls also had a lot of second place finishes in the following events:
• Event 2 - 200 Yard Medley Relay - Addison Jirovec, Olivia Pajtash, Marissa Miles, and Claire Jirovec with a time of 2:01.72
• Event 8 - 50 Yard Freestyle - Marissa Miles with a time of 26.66
• Event 10 - 100 Yard Butterfly - Addison Jirovec with a time of 1:11.19
• Event 12 - 100 Yard Freestyle Varsity - Marissa Miles with a time of 58.04
• Event 14 - 500 Yard Freestyle - Emily Winter with a time of 6:07.61
• Event 16 - 200 Yard Freestyle Relay - Claire Jirovec, Brenna Jirovec, Emily Winter, and Marissa Miles with a time of 1:53.07
• Event 22 - 400 Yard Freestyle Relay - Caroline Durbin, Emily Winter, Addison Jirovec, and Olivia Pajtash with a time of 4:26.08
And Merrill Girls finished in third place in the following events:
• Event 4 - 200 Yard Freestyle - Patricia Priebe with a time of 2:30.84
• Event 6 - 200 Yard IM - Caroline Durbin with a time of 2:46.33
• Event 8 - 50 Yard Freestyle - Claire Jirovec with a time of 27.28
• Event 10 - 100 Yard Butterfly - Caroline Durbin with a time of 1:15.89
• Event 12 - 100 Yard Freestyle - Claire Jirovec with a time of 1:03.44
• Event 20 - 100 Yard Breaststroke - Olivia Pajtash with a time of 1:18.86
