Wolf kill increasing

Posted

The inaugural Wisconsin wolf season opened Monday, Oct. 15, 2012. As of Tuesday, 20 wolves had been harvested, six of the 20 quota in Zone 2 (far NE Wis., but including Newwood), six of 32 in Zone 1 (far NW Wis.), two of 18 in Zone 3 (under Zone 1), two of 5 in Zone 4 (under Zone 2, including the E. half of Lincoln County), and three of 23 in Zone 5 (west central Wis., from Chippewa Falls to Westfield).

One wolf had been harvested of the 18 quota for Zone 6, roughly all of the southern 2/3rds of the state not included in Zone 5.

The DNR will be updating the wolf hunting and trapping page of its website (dnr.wi.gov -- search "wolf" with wolf harvest by zone) as wolves are reported. A zone map is also available. The season runs until the quotas for all zones are met or until February 28, 2013. Hunters and trappers have 24 hours to report harvest.
