Wisconsin River Pro Rodeo is this weekend

Posted

The Wisconsin River Pro Rodeo (WRPR) kicks off its 37th year this weekend, with the Lincoln County Rodeo Association (LCRA) delivering three days of professional rodeo action at the Merrill Fairgrounds, Friday, June 19, through Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Professional cowboys and cowgirls from across the U.S. — including a few with local roots — will compete in a full slate of events that are decidedly not for the faint of heart. Expect barrel racing, team roping, tie down roping, breakaway roping, and steer wrestling alongside bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding. Speed, form, and sheer determination are on the line, with competitors chasing cash, prizes, and circuit points — and often a mouthful of arena dirt. As always, Gary Van Der Geest Memorial Saddles will be awarded to the All Around Cowboy and Champion Barrel Racer.
This year’s lineup also includes specialty acts, with Spencer Rose Coughlin joining the returning Dustin “The Jester” Jenkins — barrel man and rodeo clown — for in-arena entertainment throughout the weekend.
Each day brings its own theme and traditions. Friday’s 7 p.m. performance is Military Services Recognition night, honoring those who have served and continue to serve. Saturday’s 7 p.m. performance is Cancer Awareness night — attendees are encouraged to wear pink in solidarity with fighters, survivors, and their families. Both Friday and Saturday performances are followed by a rodeo dance featuring the Jerry Schmitt Band.
Sunday’s 1 p.m. performance is Family Fun Day, and there’s plenty to keep the kids busy. The first 100 children through the gate receive a free hat, and youngsters can also dig for nickels in the Nickel Dig. Throughout the weekend, crowd-pleasing extras include a Boot Scramble, Candy Toss, and Dash events for ladies, men, and couples.

Don’t leave during Sunday’s intermission — the crowning of the 2027 WRPR Queen and Princess takes place right in the arena, and it’s a moment worth staying in your seat for.
Food vendors, the beer garden, and merchandise vendors will be on site and open before each performance.
