A deputy working a grant to enforce seat belt use stopped a vehicle being operated by Daniel A. Emmerich on Polk Street in the City of Merrill after 10: a.m. Sunday. A check showed that Emmerich's driver's license was suspended. The deputy asked for consent to search his vehicle which was denied. A K9 unit from the Wausau Police Department later responded to the scene and walked around the vehicle Emmerich was driving and the dog alerted on the vehicle.
During subsequent search deputies, found several grams of crystal meth, which is a derivative of methamphetamine. Crystal meth is usually manufactured outside of Wisconsin and transported here for local sale.
Emmerich was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he is being held on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. (3-10 grams) He was also charged with bail jumping for violating terms of his bond in a Marathon County case where he faces charges for possession of, and possession of the ingredients for methamphetamine.
