Two-vehicle crash on County Road K sends three to hospital

Posted

A head-on crash between two vehicles on County Rd. K, south of County Rd. FF in the Town of Scott, sent three people to Aspirus Wausau Hospital on Aug. 21, 2026, according to Merrill Fire Chief Josh Klug.
Merrill Fire & Ambulance and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, where one vehicle was blocking the roadway and a second had gone into the ditch, Klug said. One driver was trapped inside a vehicle, while the other vehicle carried two patients.
Deputies and firefighter/paramedics worked together to stabilize the scene. Ambulances Med-61 and Med-62 each transported a patient. Once Engine-61 crews freed the trapped driver, that patient — a man — was treated and transported in a third ambulance, Med-63.
Off-duty Merrill firefighters were available to staff the additional ambulance, Klug said. Rod’s Towing also assisted at the scene. County Rd. K was fully closed for about 30 minutes while crews worked.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the accident.
