The Merrill Youth Travel Bowling season started in November with three teams: A Girls Varsity Team, Boys Varsity Team, and the Middle School Team. As the 2024-2025 season rolls toward the end of the lane, two teams have some exciting news.
The Merrill Girls Varsity Bowling Team has secured their spot at the High School State Tournament, where they’ll defend their 2024 Division 2 State Championship title on Mar. 8, 2025, in Oshkosh.
The defending champions locked in their State Tournament appearance with crucial victories at their final regular season meet on Feb. 2 in Stevens Point. Facing a three-way tie for first place with Antigo and Manawa, the Bluejay Girls needed to win both matches to maintain their top position. Rising to the challenge, Merrill defeated Antigo in their first match and followed with a victory over Manawa to finish the season with a 6-4 record and punch their ticket to State.
The Merrill Middle School Bowling Team, composed of fifth, sixth, and seventh graders, has dominated competition throughout the season, remaining undefeated until Feb. 2 when they suffered their first loss in Stevens Point.
With two meets remaining in Antigo on Mar. 16, the young Bluejays still have an opportunity to qualify for the Middle School State Tournament, scheduled for May 3 in Appleton.
The Boys Varsity Bowling Team battled hard but wrapped up their season with a 3-7 record, falling short of State Tournament qualification this year. “Congratulations to them for their hard work all season,” said Bowling Coach Brad Krueger. “Special shout-out to high school Senior Derek Frahm and all of his accomplishments during his bowling career.”
