Merrill’s Remington Skic represented the Bluejays with determination at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament, competing in the 132-pound Division 1 bracket. The Sophomore wrestler (35-12) battled against top competition, securing one victory and earning two team points for Merrill.
“I’m impressed with how Remington competed at State. He was focused and dialed in,” said Merrill Boys Varsity Head Wrestling Coach Brian Suchocki.
In his opening match, Skic faced Devon Lietzau of Sparta (49-5) in a closely-contested bout. Despite a strong effort, Lietzau edged out Skic with a narrow 9-8 decision, sending the Merrill wrestler to the consolation bracket.
Showing resilience, Skic rebounded impressively in the first consolation round against Owen West of Beloit Memorial (33-6). Skic dominated the match with aggressive offense, securing a convincing 15-4 major decision victory.
In the second consolation round, Skic took on Joseph Jeanquart of Luxemburg-Casco (45-13). Despite another hard-fought effort, he fell in a 6-3 decision, concluding his 2025 State Tournament journey.
