Skic represents Bluejays with strong showing at WIAA State Wrestling Tournament

Merrill’s Remington Skic represented the Bluejays with determination at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament, competing in the 132-pound Division 1 bracket. The Sophomore wrestler (35-12) battled against top competition, securing one victory and earning two team points for Merrill.
“I’m impressed with how Remington competed at State. He was focused and dialed in,” said Merrill Boys Varsity Head Wrestling Coach Brian Suchocki.
In his opening match, Skic faced Devon Lietzau of Sparta (49-5) in a closely-contested bout. Despite a strong effort, Lietzau edged out Skic with a narrow 9-8 decision, sending the Merrill wrestler to the consolation bracket.
Showing resilience, Skic rebounded impressively in the first consolation round against Owen West of Beloit Memorial (33-6). Skic dominated the match with aggressive offense, securing a convincing 15-4 major decision victory.
In the second consolation round, Skic took on Joseph Jeanquart of Luxemburg-Casco (45-13). Despite another hard-fought effort, he fell in a 6-3 decision, concluding his 2025 State Tournament journey.

“This experience will serve him well going forward,” Suchocki said. “Remington is a Sophomore and will have more opportunity.”
While Skic didn’t place in the top six, his performance on the state’s biggest stage highlights his strong season and dedication to the sport. His ability to compete at such a high level demonstrates the potential for his wrestling career with the Bluejays.
“The Wrestling Program is very grateful for all the fans that came to send off all our State wrestlers, those that came down to the State Tournament, and all the fans that supported our wrestlers this season,” Suchocki said. “It was a great season and we had great support.”

- Consolation Round 2: Joseph Jeanquart (Luxemburg-Casco, 45-13) defeated Remington Skic (Merrill) by decision, 6-3
