According to the deputy's report, a vehicle being driven by Kari A. Knauf was traveling east on County Road A when it left the roadway, became airborne and struck some trees. The crash was reported at 5:00 a.m. but might have occurred hours earlier.
Knauf was trapped in her vehicle after the crash and was extricated by the Tomahawk Fire Department. She was transported by Oneida County EMS to Ministry St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander and then transported by ground to the trauma center at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. As of Sunday night she was listed in fair condition.
Deputies suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash and will cite Knauf for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Agencies that assisted at the scene included, Tomahawk EMS, Tomahawk Fire Department, Crescent Fire Department and first responders, and Oneida County Med One.
