The sixth annual Santa Lucia concert will be celebrated on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m. at the Merrill Historical Society Heritage Center, 100 E. Third St. In 2006, the Historical Society acquired the Bethlehem Lutheran Church building, and it seemed fitting to honor the congregation's Scandinavian roots. Thus began the Society's annual Santa Lucia concert.
The program will feature a performance from the Merrill High School's Vocal Jayz, under the direction of Jim Bjorklund. Vocal solos will also be sung by Mr. Bjorklund, and there will be musical selections from Dan Page on the organ, and David and Carol Finanger on the harp and violin.
The program will be completed with the appearance of Santa Lucia, the Swedish harbinger of the Christmas season, bearing a crown of seven candles. This year Santa Lucia will be portrayed by Erin Murray.
Traditional Swedish refreshments will be served after the program.
Admission is $5 and seating is limited. Tickets are available at the Historical Society office, 102 E. Third St., Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information, call 715-536-5652 or visit the web site at www.merrillhistoricalsoc.com.
