MHS second-baseman Jack Osness has earned the privilege of playing for the West squad in this weekend's WBCA All-Star Classic at E.J. Schneider Field, the home of Oshkosh North High School.
His team will play the East at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and the North and South in back-to-back contests at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
"I'm pretty excited for it," Osness said. "There will be tough pitching and great defense, but I'll be read for it. It will be like a new level to get up to."
Osness is also looking forward to the overall experience.
"I don't know anybody on the West squad but I like meeting new people and making new friends. We'll stay in the dorms and have a roommate (Friday night) so that will be fun."
Osness was selected as one of the top 72 seniors in the state. He hit .309 on the season with five doubles, and fielded at a .907 clip. He stole five bases.
"Jack's pretty steady," MHS coach Brian Artac said. "He's a 1-for-3 hitter, which isn't bad, and every once in a while he'll hit 3-for-3 or 2-for-3.
"He's just versatile. He can play second, third, short or outfield, and he could probably even catch.
"He runs well. He's got better than average speed and he's pretty heady as far as the game goes."
